Manifest
Destiny and American Imperialism:
[ send
me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the concept of "manifest
destiny" that is best described or explained as the
concept that it was the obligation of the founders of the
United States, the "new" Americans, to expand their
territory into as many regions of North America as possible
regardless of the indigenous people already inhabiting the
land or settlers originally from Mexico. Manifest destiny was
one of the major motivations for American western expansion
and one of the primary causes of the U.S.-Mexican War. Many,
if not most, Americans believed that they had a God-given
right to the land to the west of their already established
borders. Later in the century, the US expansionist desires
arose because of a powerful industrial economy that wanted
control of new lands in the Pacific and Caribbean.

Medical
Conditions During the Civil War
[ send
me this paper ]
A 7 page paper discussing the state of medicine at the
beginning of the US Civil War, how those conditions changed
throughout the war and the implications of those changes for
medicine today. We take medicine for granted in so many ways
in today's world that a review of how conditions were only 150
years ago are nothing short of horrifying. It truly is amazing
that the injured survived many of the cures that were used at
the time, but it did contribute to the conditions that are so
vastly improved today. Includes an outline of the paper.
Bibliography lists 6 sources.

The Killer Angels. In this book, Shaara takes the reader into
the possible mindset of three of the principal players in that
drama, Lee, Longstreet, and (for the Union) Chamberlain. The

this battle, according to Shaara's account. No additional
sources cited.

New
Lanark, Oneida, & Other Utopian Societies In America
[ send
me this paper ]
Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, numerous utopian
groups created their own "heavens on earth" in the
American heartland, ranging from the Shakers, to Robert Owen's
"New Harmony," to the Oneida community. They
struggled in vain to create "perfect" societies that
would differ in contrast with the dreary ones overseas in
Europe. This 6 page research paper examines the purpose,
attempts, and failures of these communities -- concentrating
primarily upon the examples of New Lanark and Oneida. The
themes of these communities and their decline are discussed.
Bibliography lists 3 sources.

News
Coverage of the Election of Abraham Lincoln
[ send
me this paper ]
A 5 page research paper that examines how election coverage
differed between the North and South. The writer gives a
detailed summation of the coverage that appeared in the New
York Times and the New Orleans Daily Picayune as being
representative of these regions. As one would expect, the tone
employed by these newspapers was quite different. While the
northern paper saw the upcoming conflict as dealing primarily
with the issue of slavery, the southern paper pictured Lincoln
as an enemy of the South in general. Bibliography lists 6
original articles from these two papers.
