Canadian Nursing Shortage

A 4 page research paper that explores the nursing shortage, focusing on Canada. There is a worldwide nursing shortage that is seriously affecting healthcare and healthcare in Canada is deeply affected. The nursing shortage in Canada is expected to worsen over the course of the next decade. Already the number of registered nurses (RNs) working in rural areas of the country has decreased from 65.2 per 10,000 in population in 1994 to 62.3 in 2000 (Belkus and MacLeod, 2004). This examination of the nursing shortage focuses on Canada and the key contextual factors that influence this crisis, as well as barriers and potential strategies to resolution.
