Utilization Management in a Canadian Hospital
A 5 page paper answering four utilization questions arising from plans to add a chronic care unit to a local hospital. The Director of a General Medicine program needs to implement a 30-bed chronic care unit in an existing hospital in Canada. The unit will take some patients immediately as another hospital closes; its other patients will originate at the hospital where the unit will be located. She needs to establish a budget and staffing needs, and estimate the new unit's effect on existing hospital resources. The director also needs to develop performance indicators for the new unit.
