Was the Iraq War Illegal?
In 2003 the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia invaded Iraq. The war was controversial, justified to many of the electorate as a response to the Iraq's build up of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The legal justification was more complex that the political rhetoric, based on international law and the failure of Iraq to comply with security council resolutions. The various issues are identified and discussed, including the events prior to the war and the differences between justifications given by the UK and Australia and the justifications of the US.
